Life

This is something I wrote about a year or so ago on the eve a birthday (I will not say which one!)...but never posted...I think it is still revelant today and wanted to share an excerpt:

"...comparison is by no means a measure of success. To succeed is to be truly happy with what you have attained at your stage of development. Not to sound cliché but some people go through life so swiftly they do not stop to smell the roses, to really be cognizant of what this life is all about, the real purpose that we are put here for, which is to really share our joys, lessons and talents with others and to give thanks for life and give back something to the world. There is one thing that I have learnt over the years: and that is life is short, life is unpredictable and you never know where life will take you, what it may bring, and no matter how much control you think you have, the reality is that you really don’t. You can’t control people no more than you can control the weather. However, we can shape our destiny by our actions. We look to the future and we think: how are we going to make this decade better than the last? Are we going to put a limit to what we can achieve? Are we going to try to please others by doing what is expected of us? Or are we going to try to live our own life to the fullest, the way we want to live it no matter what anyone says or thinks? I believe in the latter and I think most people do too whether they decide to put into action or not....

At this point, I really accept that it is really time to take that step and let go, and embrace life’s possibilities, to let go of the past, to step out of the comfort zone and embark on a new journey. Whether we feel our purpose is to pro-create, to acquire fame and fortune, to be President, CEO or simply to leave your mark on this world by simple things, to touch everyone you meet by your actions, words and deeds so as to leave behind a legacy. Maybe it all sounds a bit dramatic, but that is all life is. Actions and reactions, repercussions of a former action: simply known as karma. Time is one of life’s simple phenomenons and this coupled with patience and a little faith, is the solution to most of our problems; the more we realize this, the faster we would achieve most of our objectives, which I am sure happiness is at the core...." Accept the challenge

At times we wonder if there is something more to life than the eight to four or nine to five. Have we found our true calling or are we still on our journey? Maybe sometimes we think that we have found it, but something may happen for us to doubt ourselves. How many of us truly can say we love what we do? How many of us know our true gifts and talents? This list maybe long or maybe we can’t seem to think of any at the moment but I’m sure some of our closest and dearest family and friends can tell us in one breath what is unique and special about us. This is something which we may overlook ourselves. Whether we can cook the best peleau or sew the best drapery to the envy of many of our houseguests. We are special creatures beyond imagination. We may be sitting on a goal mine and not know it. If we hone that skill or talent we may not have to work another day in our lives, as our job may not seem much like work at all...Today’s world calls for guts, for risk and creativity, passion and love. Many people may feel like they are just going through the motions waiting for that dream job or business opportunity to just fall into their laps. But sometimes we have to reach out and find it: make it happen...(c)

Nothing Lasts Forever

Nothing lasts forever…like children that grow up before the eyes of their parents; that ‘sweep me off my feet’ feeling of young love…the culmination of emotions at the yuletide season especially Christmas morning. These are all things that we wish could last forever but inevitably all good things must come to an end. Sometimes we wonder why did life have to change, these moments often pass by so quickly that maybe at the time we are not fully cognizant and appreciative of what is happening in our lives...Too many times we forget to savour the moments, we rush from one moment to the next without a second thought about what is happening in the present and before you know it that moment is gone. And the proverbial question remains: do we have control over our destiny? Many of us struggle with this eternal enigma. Is life laid out for us just to ‘live out’ or do we actively have a role to play in what happens at every stage? ...© To read more look out for the publication of a collection coming soon!

Mom: Am I Big Yet?!

Often times we ask ourselves this question: “Why did we have to grow up?” And the answer is obvious: because the world is fluid, constantly growing, changing, the old challenging the new. If we stayed one age forever how would we be able to enjoy the fruits life has to offer...finding our niche and passion, parenthood and of course giving back to those who cared for us when we couldn’t care for ourselves – our parents...(c)

Never too late

Wherever did the time go? How many times have we asked ourselves this question? Is there something you always wanted to do but never did? Bungee jumping, parachuting, deep sea diving perhaps? For the less adventurous among us, there must be something we had a burning desire to pursue but for some reason or the other, you didn’t. Maybe it was because of time or obligation or maybe fear. Fear of being judged, fear of the unknown or simply fear. Whatever the reason I’m sure most of us agree that it is never too late to do that one thing that will make our spirits soar. Soar above the ordinary…to places that we would not normally visit except in our imagination... (c)

The Quest for Happiness

According to 2008 statistics from the World Health Organization, heart disease and strokes are on the rise as the leading causes of death around the world. This trend is said to continue over the next twenty years or so according to a report published in May 2008. Some of the underlying causes of this are stress-related and often we find ourselves the victim. With this in mind, we must really step back and assess what is the object of our happiness. Is it wealth? Is it a good job? Is it finding a suitable partner to share your life with? Or is it simply life? Given the current situation in the world today when a human life is so easily ‘snuffed out’ we really need to take charge and make the most of every moment of life... (c)

Here and Now

Life is what you make it, or so the saying goes…. but is it really? Life can be tumultuous…it has its ups and downs, beginnings and endings. Sometimes we wish we could choose what will be our ending. As we go through the motions, charting our own territory and trying to find our purpose in this world…it sometimes crosses our mind…is there something more? ....(c)

Seasons Change

Time after time we find ourselves stuck in the moment. That one moment of time that we thought was the zenith of our lives…the be-all-and end all of time times infinity. The thing is, life is an evolution and there are always new adventures to behold. If we prevent ourselves from experiencing new things, how do we know what else is out there? Be it a career, location or thing there is always more to experience. The day we wake up and tell ourselves that this is all there is to life, is the day we stop living.

For many of us, we want one of those TV lives that we see when we’re surfing for a good movie, where everything is perfect and surreal. The truth is that those things only happen on television and those actors actually have real lives like us...(c)
