Just a note to say a Happy cinco de Mayo for all those who are celebrating the Battle of Puebla today! It's an important date in Mexican history as Mexico won a valiant victory in 1862 over the French whose army was much bigger and stronger.

ps great news! I aced the first level of my Spanish course ---- 19 out of 20 in my Oral Exam! And 18 out of 20 Total in projects, written assignments and quizzes! That's 90%!! So starting next week I'm moving onto Basico dos - Basic 2 Spanish!! YAY for me:) Feels great! I'm on my way to becoming bilingual. ¿Habla Español? Drop me a line!

May is here!

So we're in the month of May!! Can you believe it? Almost mid-year...don't you remember Christmas like it was just yesterday?? Christmas, (Trinidad & Tobago) Carnival, Lent, Easter................Wow! Where did the time go!?

My message tonight is to savour the moments...because when it's gone it cannot be recaptured. In our constant rush to get from one thing or one place to the next...do we often find ourselves having regrets? Regrets for having missed those important milestones in our lives like: our parents 40th anniversary...or our best friend's bridal shower, our child's first word or first step...first dance recital or school play? In this technological age where everyone is connected in the virtual world, is this really enough?

True connections are ones that we can reach out and touch (no I'm not going to break into song:), give a hug, lend a hand or provide a shoulder to lean or cry on. It's about telling stories or jokes or playing a game. It's about having fun at the beach or going hiking. It's teaching a young one to count or tie a shoe lace (yourself as a parent). It's mastering the art of forgiveness and saying you're sorry or being around for that last goodbye...

It is important to ensure that we are present for these events in our lives and not just show up. Be fully aware of the moment you are in, marvel in all it's spendour and make every second count. One day you will be glad you did as you reflect on your golden memories of a time that's irreplaceable.

As we look towards this new month of May and all that it offers...let's always remember to Make it Count!

Bocas Lit fest!!

Buenas dias!

It's been a busy few weeks. Lots going on but nothing or no one can keep me from this right here! Today I attended the Bocas Lit Fest at our National Library (NALIS). This is the first time that I attended and it was absolutely fab (give or take a few hiccups)! ! It was on for only 3 days and I missed a great deal the last two days but certainly made up for it today. Although I missed the "How to get published" workshop, I still managed to attend a poetry session by a Jamaican/American poet Shara McCallum and book reading by Myriam Chancy (Haitian/American author) who are both professors at universities by profession. The Caribbean is definitely filled with some extraordinary and talented people. Met some other interesting folks and was encouraged to do a reading from my book at the open mic session. Coming out of this I even had a BBC interview!! What a fortuitous spin of events. It was an excellent way to spend 5 hours on a Sunday. God is good:)

We were ALL born to SHARE!

Whew! It's been a while since I blogged. Been a rough few days but I'm back. Thought my nice new rested vacation feeling could have lasted forever but no!! :( I got fooled again. Lots to blog about. Before I get to my trip, I have some good news to announce! Well a few announcements:) The first...part of the reason I've been neglecting my blog is because I've been cramming for my final Spanish (oral) exam for Basico 1. And after practising on my own and with friends who are bilingual and wearing them out...I had my exam on Wednesday afternoon and I'm happy to say..........that my examiner said that I did an "excellent test...and I have a good foundation!" Woohoo....I was elated...felt like I was floating on air during the drive home:) Great news...since I was really beginning to panic that maybe my brain had become rusty lol. So official results will be posted in the upcoming weeks and I'm looking forward to starting Basic 2!! **winks to my special friends**

Next announcement....next Monday I will be attending an appreciation ceremony for First Time Authors being hosted by our National Library (NALIS) Can't wait!! There will be about 50 first time authors and someone famous will be reading excerpts from our books and doing a critique....and we also get an award!! **excitement** Looking forward to that and will give you the full details next week on the venue, entertainment, dress code and the night's proceedings.

This weekend I have to get a lot done...not sure how I'm doing it but ya know "where there is a will there is a way." Rest first and foremost. I have to go into the office Sunday...which puts a dampen on my relaxation plan but you gotta do what you gotta do. I have to reformat my book for kindle and an article for an online HR/Entrepreneurial magazine. Next post will be about my trip soo stay glued to Moment to Moment!!

The Spice Isle is the place to be!!

I just returned from the most fabulous mini vacay to Grenada!! That island is amazing! Rich in history and culture. The people are soo warm, friendly and genuinely NICE! When last you came across all of that in one place? If you get the chance you should go...if you do ask for Anthony...he's the best tour guide!!

The way, the truth and the life

Holy Week is almost at it's peak with the Triduum commencing today being Holy Thursday - a highlight in some religions as Jesus washes the disciples' feet and broke the symbolic bread and wine at the last supper which represented His Body and Blood that was spilt for our salvation. This is still celebrated today in the Catholic church and other Christian religions that celebrate Holy Communion. I'm a bit disappointed that I couldn't make it to church today again for this momentous feast where the church is stripped of all paintings etc and persons' feet washed.

Tomorrow is Good Friday where several take the symbolic walk up a hilly slope in their neighbouring communities representing the walk to Calvary where Jesus laboured to sacrifice His life in order to give us new life. The procession reenacts the beatings He endured while carrying the Cross on which he was crucified to save us sinners. On Glorious Saturday Jesus' body lays in the tomb and some religions keep vigils often lighting candles (lit from the main Paschal candle - RC). The 40 day fast fast/abstinence for Lent is also broken on this day. Easter Sunday follows and represents the resurrection of Christ from the dead on the third day.

Whether we are Christian or not, it is important to note the message contained throughout His journey and the belief in a Saviour which may come in many different forms. We are all sinners and we now have eternal life --this is not by chance. Fasting and abstinence should not only be limited to Lent but practised throughout the year so as to become more at peace with oneself and atone for our sins as we give something back to Him as we strive to become closer to our God. In this way, we would realize that life moves a little less arduous and we are able to solve problems more readily that may appear in our lives. We all have to believe in something....and we should all care about what happens to us after we die. I believe in an afterlife. But I can't tell you who to believe in. I place all my trust and cares in God and He never fails me. The choice is yours.
